Crest View Elementary hosts Vocabulary Parade

Crest View Elementary hosts Vocabulary Parade

Cheers and smiles filled the hallways of Crest View Elementary on March 15, as the school hosted its annual Vocabulary Parade. Every student selected a word, studied its meaning, then decorated a poster, vest or hat with information about their vocabulary word for the parade.

Kristi Bongaarts, the school’s speech pathologist, said the parade idea came from the book “Miss Alaineous: A Vocabulary Disaster” by Debra Frasier, which included a vocabulary parade. Crest View has put on this event for the past five years, shifting to a video parade during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s event was in full swing, with students and parents lining the hallways to give high-fives and cheer for the classes coming through. Some classrooms had a theme that all their vocabulary words related to, like bees, while other classrooms chose more wide-ranging words.
